Feel Sexy Right NOW! The French Way.

When I was 17, I bought a book called “French Chic”. This book contained all the “secrets” french women used to feel & look sexy.

Over the years, I adapted some of their secrets, & whenever I need a “lift”, I incorporate what these french women shared.

First, what is sexy? Sexy isn’t a look or a style, it’s a state of mind. A vibration you emanate as a result of a “feeling”.  A feeling of self-worth, confidence, happiness, security in who you are. It’s not really about your skin, your clothes, your hair, if your pretty or not, or even your weight. When you are secure in who you REALLY are & embrace that person, you emanate sexiness.

So what are some of the tips these french women shared? Here are some of my favorite tips…

  1. NEVER go to bed with make up on! Take the proper steps to cleanse, tone & nourish your skin BEFORE you go to bed. They are fully aware that your body repairs itself when we sleep. Going to sleep with makeup on is sabotage to your skin

  2. ALWAYS use moisturizer. Keep your skin hydrated always! Additionally, they spritz water on their face throughout the day.

  3. DRINK plenty of water! We all know the importance of drinking enough water everyday. Water is treated as a luxury in France. Sexy French women drink a lot of water because they know it improves their skin. They use micellar water as part of their cleansing routine.

  4. PAMPER your skin, all of it! When you’re in the shower or taking a bath, exfoliate your skin with a natural scrub. They understand that our body is capable of repair itself & with proper care, you can have the best skin imaginable. They embrace the aging process, they don’t fight to look 20 forever! (This is a state of mind also). Taking care of their skin is something french women do to pamper themselves & they thoroughly enjoy it!

  5. EXFOLIATE at least once a week. French women treat their face to a mask & exfoliation at least once a week.

  6. ROUTINE skincare. While routines vary, they look something like this: cleanser, serummoisturizer, eye cream & products for specific issues such as unevenness or dullness. 

  7. LOVE your body. Take notice of how your body feels when you nurture it with lotions & creams, keeping it hydrated & soft. Show gratitude what your body has done for you over the past years. Appreciate yourself! Good skincare will always reveal better skin & French women realize this.

  8. PREVENTION. They practice prevention from their youth so they have to do less treatment later. They start on eye creams & serums in their teens or early twenties. This approach means their skin looks better longer. My aunt who lived in Paris for many years, taught me this when I was 10! She helped me come up with a skincare routine back then. Skincare routine years BEFORE makeup!

  9. WEAR Lingerie under your clothes just for you! Just doing this automatically makes you FEEL sexy! French women don’t need a special occasion for nice underwear. I discovered that underwear isn’t just underwear, it’s “lingerie” & it reflects an art of living — a philosophy dedicated to an enhanced well-being.

  10. NO FUSS Hair. They’re not fussy about hair. Have you ever noticed a french woman’s hair? They have a style, while chic, that is very much carefree. Always think “natural” & “low maintenance.” Think “sex” hair.

  11. EMBRACE your age. Rather than try to hide the fact that you’re aging, embrace it! That’s the French philosophy They do their best to protect their skin from aging but when it occurs, they don’t fight it.

  12. MASSAGE. French women painstakingly cake on product after product to keep their skin looking young & fabulous! As Americans, we tend to stop at the neck or even worse the chin. French women go beyond these two points by working the chest into their routine. By keeping your neck & chest supple you’ll increase your facial skins appearance as well.

  13. ATTITUDE towards life. French women enjoy EVERYTHING they do! It could be something as simple as walking to the Metro, buying food in a store, eating a piece of pastry, or the way she wears her clothes. It’s all about attitude. French women radiate confidence & a sexy allure, no matter what they do. She could be having the worst day possible, but no one would know it. Feel gorgeous, act gorgeous & you’ll be gorgeous.

  14. Lipstick is a french women’s girl’s best friend. They might not be into tons of makeup, but, they will ALWAYS wear lipstick!

French women are known for having beautiful skin so their secrets are important! They believe in being the best they can at any age & that’s certainly a lesson we can all learn. Rather than stressing over what we don’t like about ourselves, let’s focus on the things we LOVE about ourselves, doing the best we can & be content in that!

  1. Bergamot is used to treat stress, depression, anxiety, anorexia, and a number of infections including skin infections like psoriasis and eczema.
  2. Patchouli serves as a powerful skin care agent; it even promotes skin cell growth when applied directly to the skin. Patchouli helps to relieve anxiety, depression, fatigue, curb addiction, reduce cellulite and bloating.
  3. Eucalyptus is a powerful treatment against respiratory issues. In addition it is used as an antiseptic, antispasmodic, fight migraines &fevers, decongestant, diuretic and stimulant & helps with muscle aches and pains.
  4. , Lavender is known for its stress reliever benefits it also has the following therapeutic properties: antiseptic, antidepressant, anti-inflammatory decongestant, deodorant, diuretic and sedative.

Relax with Music

When you walk into a spa, you typically hear soft, tranquil music playing faintly in the background, and there’s good reason for that! Music is known for its ability to slow down the mind and relax the body, decreasing your heart rate as you listen. Relaxing sounds also help increase serotonin production, which helps to reduce blood pressure, increases happy thoughts and can even treat anxiety symptoms. I love listening to Enigma or any type of New Age music.  Let your mind go, don’t focus on any thoughts just be aware of any messages you may receive.

Escape with Essential Oils

Essential oils can be found in practically any spa and are used in everything from relaxing massage oils, to body scrubs and moisturizers. There are many varieties of oils that offer amazing benefits to your skin and body, such as restoring skin vitality and generating new, healthy cells. Whatever oils you choose, try to invest in natural essential oils and not the synthetic varieties, which usually don’t have the same effects as their natural counterparts. To get the benefits of essential oils at home, you can use them in your bath or fill a bowl with warm water, add a few drops of your favorite oil, then soak a washcloth in the water. Use the washcloth as a compress on your face and neck for just five minutes. Repeat as necessary, then use a towel to dry your skin. You’ll be absolutely glowing after just one application. Never apply essential oils directly to your skin. Less is best, especially if your skin is sensitive.

Ease Stress with a Massage

We all know that weekly trips to a massage therapist would be great to release unwanted tension and stress from our achy, tired muscles–but we don’t all have the time or money for that. Thankfully you can get similar relaxation benefits at home with a quick and simple scalp massage or a massage pillow. Just one scalp massage can provide deep relaxation, relieve pain in your head and neck and help ease eye strain from all that computer screen-staring. When done on an ongoing basis, scalp massages can even relieve you from chronic headaches and migraines. Don’t have a friend or spouse available to give you a scalp massage? No worries. You can find do-it-yourself scalp massagers at your favorite online retailer or health and wellness store. I love my shiatsu massager, I use it every day!

Scrub Away Unhealthy Skin

Many spas offer invigorating sugar and salt scrubs for healthy skin exfoliation purposes. And because skin is the body’s largest organ, taking care of it is very important. Our skin absorbs unhealthy toxins every day in all environments, and takes a beating when it comes to too much sun exposure. Plus, clogged pores from sweating during daily workouts can hold unwanted toxins which result in unsightly blemishes. So, the next time you’re in the shower, reach for a salt or sugar scrub, add a small amount to your sponge or washcloth and gently slough away old, dead skin cells to reveal soft, glowing, healthy skin.

Steam It Up

Steaming isn’t just a healthy way to cook your favorite veggies, is great for achieving healthy skin too! Steaming helps retain nutrients in your skin much like it does in your food. So, the next time you look in the mirror and see clogged pores or a dull complexion, steam things up to reveal brighter, healthier skin. Simply soak two small towels in hot water, drape each on either side of your face and hold for just five minutes. Pat your face dry with a clean towel and then proceed with your regular skin cleansing regimen.  I love putting a pot of water on the stove & adding a couple of drops of tea tree oil, after it boils I turn off burner & place my face over the steam…NOT too close you don’t wanna burn yourself! You’ll see results after just one steam.

Soak Away Stress

One of the most relaxing things we can do for our bodies is to take some time to soak away the stress and tension in our tired muscles–and all you need is a regular, old bathtub for that! So, the next time you have a little bit of extra time to pamper yourself, light some candles, turn on your favorite tunes, run a hot bath, put a few drops of your favorite oils, flower petals, bath salts or bubbles & lay back, shut your eyes and soak your cares, aches and pains away.  Your mind and body will be much more relaxed when you step out of the bath as opposed to your usual shower.

Is Your Body Telling You Need a Mind/Body Detox?

How can you tell if you need a full body/mind detox? Your body will tell you, you just have to know what to look for when it’s trying to communicate. Your body will always let you know what your mind it doing, what you’re attracting, you just need to listen to it.

This is a 21 Day Challenge to detox your Mind & Body. This is also a commitment! So, how do you know if you need a spiritual detox? In other words, are you aware of when you’re feeding your spirit too much junk for the soul to feel good?

How do you know if you need a body detox? If your body is showing the following signs you need a detox then it’s pretty safe to assume your mind needs on as well. Many times a list of symptoms reads like the human condition, with things that almost everyone experiences from time to time. What we’re looking for here is how often it happens. Frequently feeling fatigued, experiencing indigestion, etc. It’s the frequency that matters.

If you’ve noticed any of the following occurs on a regular basis, you’re likely overdue for a detox.

Just in case you aren’t following, here are some “spiritual” junk food items that you can become addicted to:

  • Endless Facebooking
  • Constant patrolling of TMZ’s Twitter feed
  • Compulsive digging into the latest gossip on celebrities
  • Binge-watching Netflix

Of course, there’s nothing wrong with these items in moderation, but it’s possible to go overboard. The result can be toxic to your soul.

Here are some signs you might need a spiritual detox:

  1. You find yourself scrolling through your news feed seeking negativity… Misery loves company.
  2. You open your mouth and spew sarcasm unintentionally. You try to be more mindful when you speak, but you can’t seem to help yourself.
  3. Your friends don’t want to be around you.
  4. Your heart hurts. Or worse, it doesn’t. You are numb.
  5. You find pleasure in other people’s misfortunes. (Again, misery loves company.)
  6. Happy people piss you off. You don’t even want to hear the word “joy.”
  7. You don’t sleep well. You’re having bad dreams and catch yourself grinding your teeth…. A lot.
  8. You keep finding yourself in circumstances where you feel like the victim.
  9. You shy away from prayer, meditation, anything inspirational.
  10. You are bored — all the time.
  11. You can’t even remember the last time you took a walk, watched the sunset or sunrise, walked barefoot in the grass, or felt the summer breeze on your face.

Here are a few ways to engage in a spiritual detox. Remember, please do so with compassion. Above all else, be kind to yourself. We are all doing the best we can, and everyone wants to be happy and free from suffering.

 

Spiritual Mind Detox

1. Surround yourself with people who make you laugh and genuinely make you happy!

Laughter is good for your soul. Seek the company of those who make you feel light and buoyant. Don’t question why you enjoy someone. Just enjoy them.

2. Uplift others

When you feel downtrodden, it can be helpful to find the things you enjoy about others and to offer that feedback liberally. It’s important to remember that the things we see in others are also reflections of ourselves. Find a way to connect with and uplift someone. Attend a yoga class, read a blog, take a spin class — reach out to your favorite wellness warrior and uplift them. You’ll feel better almost instantly. On Facebook? Post something positive!

3. Try shifting your addiction to kindness

Kindness is a drug. When you extend, witness or receive an act of kindness, your body releases serotonin, an endorphin. As cliché as it may be, practice a random act of kindness. You’ll feel amazing in doing so.

4. Make time and space to develop a meditation practice

Meditation soothes the soul. There are incredible sites and courses to lead you through meditations if you don’t already have a meditation practice. Turning inward is a beautiful way to clear away the muck of spiritual junk food. Listening to your internal wisdom is a quick path to shedding that which does not serve you. I know, I know, most people have a hard time with this one. How about just sitting outside or taking a walk or doing something that allows you to just be & notice nature around you? Every morning I sit out on my patio & watch nature & look for the messages within them. You don’t have to be a Buddhist monk to meditate! Just BE.

5. Get in touch will all of your senses

Go outside. Enjoy the summer weather. Move, sweat, breathe. This will bring you into a visceral experience of the magic of this life. And it is so worth it. Find the beauty that surrounds you, you become MORE grateful!

6. Seek something sacred

Turn to joy. At our essence, our foundation, we are spiritual beings who share a human experience. Sometimes the heaviness of our human experience can weigh us down. It’s important to remember that you are more than this physical body. You are expansive consciousness incarnate, YOU are energy! As such, you can find and experience joy even within difficult circumstances. You mindfully start training yourself to start looking for the gift in the moment. Like anything worth practicing, it can be difficult at first. Over time, it becomes simple and easy, it becomes second nature. Yes it takes work, but so does negativity! If anything it takes MORE work to go against life that it does to flow with it.

Now here are signs your body needs a detox:

1. Low Energy/Fatigued

With the rise of energy drinks and the steady popularity of caffeinated beverages it seems like there is a low energy epidemic in full swing!

Trying to make up for a lack of energy with stimulants like caffeine only worsen the problem. After the pick-me-up there is often an energy crash that leaves you feeling worse than when you started. Not only that but these beverages usually act to burden the liver, further exacerbating the problem and sending you into a low-energy spiral.

If you wake up in the morning feeling sluggish, and pretty much stay that way throughout the day with varying degrees of lethargy, you should definitely consider doing a detox. A detoxification program can help you lose body waste, feel lighter, and release store up toxins.

How a Detox Helps: A detox can help you flush out the things that are preventing you from feeling energetic and having a pep in your step.

2. Brain Fog/Unable to Focus

There’s one energy drink on the market that keeps promising to improve your focus. Perhaps that’s because there’s a serious need for many Americans to go on a detox program because of all the toxins they’re exposed to on a daily basis. Inflammation in the brain causes neurons to fire more slowly, slowing down mental acuity, recall, and reflexes. Sluggish neurons also shut down the production of energy in the cells. This means that cells fatigue easily, and you may lose your ability to focus for long periods of time. If you consistently find that in your natural state you lack the ability to focus and find yourself adrift in a mental fog, your body could be screaming at your to detoxify it, and this is its cry for help. Don’t misread it as a sign to use a stimulating drink or prescription drug.

Once you free yourself of toxins in the form of candida, heavy metals, and more, you’d be surprised how much better you’re able to focus, stay on task, and get things done.

How a Detox Helps: A detox helps get rid of the toxins that are preventing your brain from firing on all cylinders. How a Detox Helps: A detox may not be the cure for clinical depression, you’ll want to see your doctor for that. But as far as helping to avoid depressing thoughts, a detox can work wonders. It frees your body of stored up toxins that can keep you in patterns of negative thinking, and can inspire a new outlook on life.

If you’re not at your ideal weight even after several earnest attempts at weight loss, it could be that you were fighting an uphill battle thanks to all of the toxins in your body.

Turning over a new leaf and introducing the body to healthy foods doesn’t work as well as you’d think it does if there is waste in the body that is preventing the absorption of the vitamins and minerals these foods contain.

When you detox the body you are bringing things back to square one rather than starting at a disadvantage. It not only helps the body shed body waste and lose weight as a byproduct of doing the detox, it sets the stage for healthy weight loss with the adoption of a better diet and a more active lifestyle.

How a Detox Helps: You will automatically reset your body’s neurotransmitters and hormones & because it rids your body of harmful elements, you naturally loose weight because you are releasing toxins your body doesn’t need or use. When your body doesn’t need or use something it stores it as fat!

5. Trouble Sleeping

An excessive amount of toxins can keep you up at night, tossing and turning as your natural cycle is disrupted. Melatonin signals the body for sleep, but an excessively toxic body can reduce the amount of melatonin that is released, and cause a domino effect when it comes to getting natural, restful sleep.

When the body is persistently kept in an unnatural state, which is the case if you have too many toxins in the body, you may find yourself falling out of rhythm with nature. This will have you staying up late and waking up later than you need to, or feeling like you need more sleep than you actually do.

Try a detox before resorting to sleep aids, which will only prolong the problem.

You can then be more apt to follow the patterns of the circadian rhythm, getting tired at appropriate times at night thanks to melatonin released by the body, and waking up with the birds feeling refreshed and recharged.

6. Unexplained Headaches

The source of some headaches is easy to identify, either from a stressful day or being around a lot of noise. But if you suffer from regular headaches with no obvious cause it may be just the time for a detox.

A headache is a pretty reliable way for your body to tell you that something isn’t right. It gets your attention and can bring your world to standstill if it’s bad enough. Rather than treat the symptom of pain, it’s best to see if your headaches are being caused by a toxic state.

Before trying yet another pain reliever or worrying that you’ll have these headaches for the rest of your life, try a detox program to see if the problem is too many toxins. Just be warned, your headaches may worsen during the detoxification process, but when it’s complete they should be gone, or at least greatly reduced.

How a Detox Helps: A detox gets rid of impurities in the body that may be making you more prone to a headache.

7. Skin Problems/Allergic Reactions

You may have noticed that your skin has been having issues, and nothing that you’ve tried has been able to fix it.

A topical treatment isn’t going to help if the cause of your skin problem is excessive toxicity in the body. It’s time to get to the root cause and follow a proven detox program that lists skin conditions as one of the symptoms it can relieve.

One thing to keep in mind is that a side effect of doing a detox is often rashes and other skin problems, especially if many toxins are being released. These will subside by the time the process has finished, and should not be confused as a worsening of your problem.

How a Detox Helps: A detox works at the source of the problem, ridding the body of toxins that can lead to rashes, outbreaks, and allergic reactions on the skin.

So there you have it. They key here is to create a Lifestyle that you can stick to, this is not a quick fix. Once you detox your body you need to change your diet as well. Eating foods that aren’t good for you & using products that aren’t safe will only add new toxins into your body. Our environment already has a lot of toxins within it, but the good news is that once your body is healthy & functioning at maximum level, it can release those toxins naturally!

As for your mind, creating new thought patterns & awareness is key to a healthy mind. It does take effort but so does doing nothing! So what’s a mind/body detox worth to you?
