Feel Sexy Right NOW! The French Way.


When I was 17, I bought a book called “French Chic”. This book contained all the “secrets” french women used to feel & look sexy.

Over the years, I adapted some of their secrets, & whenever I need a “lift”, I incorporate what these french women shared.

First, what is sexy? Sexy isn’t a look or a style, it’s a state of mind. A vibration you emanate as a result of a “feeling”.  A feeling of self-worth, confidence, happiness, security in who you are. It’s not really about your skin, your clothes, your hair, if your pretty or not, or even your weight. When you are secure in who you REALLY are & embrace that person, you emanate sexiness.

So what are some of the tips these french women shared? Here are some of my favorite tips…

  1. NEVER go to bed with make up on! Take the proper steps to cleanse, tone & nourish your skin BEFORE you go to bed. They are fully aware that your body repairs itself when we sleep. Going to sleep with makeup on is sabotage to your skin

  2. ALWAYS use moisturizer. Keep your skin hydrated always! Additionally, they spritz water on their face throughout the day.

  3. DRINK plenty of water! We all know the importance of drinking enough water everyday. Water is treated as a luxury in France. Sexy French women drink a lot of water because they know it improves their skin. They use micellar water as part of their cleansing routine.

  4. PAMPER your skin, all of it! When you’re in the shower or taking a bath, exfoliate your skin with a natural scrub. They understand that our body is capable of repair itself & with proper care, you can have the best skin imaginable. They embrace the aging process, they don’t fight to look 20 forever! (This is a state of mind also). Taking care of their skin is something french women do to pamper themselves & they thoroughly enjoy it!

  5. EXFOLIATE at least once a week. French women treat their face to a mask & exfoliation at least once a week.

  6. ROUTINE skincare. While routines vary, they look something like this: cleanser, serummoisturizer, eye cream & products for specific issues such as unevenness or dullness. 

  7. LOVE your body. Take notice of how your body feels when you nurture it with lotions & creams, keeping it hydrated & soft. Show gratitude what your body has done for you over the past years. Appreciate yourself! Good skincare will always reveal better skin & French women realize this.

  8. PREVENTION. They practice prevention from their youth so they have to do less treatment later. They start on eye creams & serums in their teens or early twenties. This approach means their skin looks better longer. My aunt who lived in Paris for many years, taught me this when I was 10! She helped me come up with a skincare routine back then. Skincare routine years BEFORE makeup!

  9. WEAR Lingerie under your clothes just for you! Just doing this automatically makes you FEEL sexy! French women don’t need a special occasion for nice underwear. I discovered that underwear isn’t just underwear, it’s “lingerie” & it reflects an art of living — a philosophy dedicated to an enhanced well-being.

  10. NO FUSS Hair. They’re not fussy about hair. Have you ever noticed a french woman’s hair? They have a style, while chic, that is very much carefree. Always think “natural” & “low maintenance.” Think “sex” hair.

  11. EMBRACE your age. Rather than try to hide the fact that you’re aging, embrace it! That’s the French philosophy They do their best to protect their skin from aging but when it occurs, they don’t fight it.

  12. MASSAGE. French women painstakingly cake on product after product to keep their skin looking young & fabulous! As Americans, we tend to stop at the neck or even worse the chin. French women go beyond these two points by working the chest into their routine. By keeping your neck & chest supple you’ll increase your facial skins appearance as well.

  13. ATTITUDE towards life. French women enjoy EVERYTHING they do! It could be something as simple as walking to the Metro, buying food in a store, eating a piece of pastry, or the way she wears her clothes. It’s all about attitude. French women radiate confidence & a sexy allure, no matter what they do. She could be having the worst day possible, but no one would know it. Feel gorgeous, act gorgeous & you’ll be gorgeous.

  14. Lipstick is a french women’s girl’s best friend. They might not be into tons of makeup, but, they will ALWAYS wear lipstick!

They believe in being the best they can at any age & that’s certainly a lesson we can all learn. Rather than stressing over what we don’t like about ourselves, let’s focus on the things we LOVE about ourselves, doing the best we can & be content in that!

If you can name your emotions, you can tame them…we aren’t superhuman and we all need a breather sometimes, but between work and life commitments, it can be difficult to find the time for yourself & never mind a day at the spa! However, it’s important to take time for yourself in order to live a healthy, balanced life. You soul needs to reconnect to Source in order to keep some balance, so relax. Seek Comfort in Candles

Look for candles that contain essential oils, these are my top 10 essential oils.

  1. Bergamot is used to treat stress, depression, anxiety, anorexia, and a number of infections including skin infections like psoriasis and eczema.
  2. Patchouli serves as a powerful skin care agent; it even promotes skin cell growth when applied directly to the skin. Patchouli helps to relieve anxiety, depression, fatigue, curb addiction, reduce cellulite and bloating.
  3. Eucalyptus is a powerful treatment against respiratory issues. In addition it is used as an antiseptic, antispasmodic, fight migraines &fevers, decongestant, diuretic and stimulant & helps with muscle aches and pains.
  4. , Lavender is known for its stress reliever benefits it also has the following therapeutic properties: antiseptic, antidepressant, anti-inflammatory decongestant, deodorant, diuretic and sedative.
  5. Lemon oil is a multifaceted essential oil. It helps with everything from skin irritation to digestion to circulation problems. It is a natural immunity booster and can even help reduce cellulite! Lemon oil helps to alleviate headaches and fever, and is a quick mood enhancer.
  6. Tea Tree’s healing properties are abundant. Not only is it a natural immune booster, but it also fights all three kinds of infection. Relax with Music

When you walk into a spa, you typically hear soft, tranquil music playing faintly in the background, and there’s good reason for that! Music is known for its ability to slow down the mind and relax the body, decreasing your heart rate as you listen. Relaxing sounds also help increase serotonin production, which helps to reduce blood pressure, increases happy thoughts and can even treat anxiety symptoms. I love listening to Enigma or any type of New Age music.  Let your mind go, don’t focus on any thoughts just be aware of any messages you may receive.


Escape with Essential Oils

Essential oils can be found in practically any spa and are used in everything from relaxing massage oils, to body scrubs and moisturizers. There are many varieties of oils that offer amazing benefits to your skin and body, such as restoring skin vitality and generating new, healthy cells. Whatever oils you choose, try to invest in natural essential oils and not the synthetic varieties, which usually don’t have the same effects as their natural counterparts. To get the benefits of essential oils at home, you can use them in your bath or fill a bowl with warm water, add a few drops of your favorite oil, then soak a washcloth in the water. Use the washcloth as a compress on your face and neck for just five minutes. Repeat as necessary, then use a towel to dry your skin. You’ll be absolutely glowing after just one application. Never apply essential oils directly to your skin. Less is best, especially if your skin is sensitive.


Ease Stress with a Massage

We all know that weekly trips to a massage therapist would be great to release unwanted tension and stress from our achy, tired muscles–but we don’t all have the time or money for that. Thankfully you can get similar relaxation benefits at home with a quick and simple scalp massage or a massage pillow. Just one scalp massage can provide deep relaxation, relieve pain in your head and neck and help ease eye strain from all that computer screen-staring. When done on an ongoing basis, scalp massages can even relieve you from chronic headaches and migraines. Don’t have a friend or spouse available to give you a scalp massage? No worries. You can find do-it-yourself scalp massagers at your favorite online retailer or health and wellness store. I love my shiatsu massager, I use it every day!


Scrub Away Unhealthy Skin

Many spas offer invigorating sugar and salt scrubs for healthy skin exfoliation purposes. And because skin is the body’s largest organ, taking care of it is very important. Our skin absorbs unhealthy toxins every day in all environments, and takes a beating when it comes to too much sun exposure. Plus, clogged pores from sweating during daily workouts can hold unwanted toxins which result in unsightly blemishes. So, the next time you’re in the shower, reach for a salt or sugar scrub, add a small amount to your sponge or washcloth and gently slough away old, dead skin cells to reveal soft, glowing, healthy skin.



Steam It Up

Steaming isn’t just a healthy way to cook your favorite veggies, is great for achieving healthy skin too! Steaming helps retain nutrients in your skin much like it does in your food. So, the next time you look in the mirror and see clogged pores or a dull complexion, steam things up to reveal brighter, healthier skin. Simply soak two small towels in hot water, drape each on either side of your face and hold for just five minutes. Pat your face dry with a clean towel and then proceed with your regular skin cleansing regimen.  I love putting a pot of water on the stove & adding a couple of drops of tea tree oil, after it boils I turn off burner & place my face over the steam…NOT too close you don’t wanna burn yourself! You’ll see results after just one steam.


Soak Away Stress

One of the most relaxing things we can do for our bodies is to take some time to soak away the stress and tension in our tired muscles–and all you need is a regular, old bathtub for that! So, the next time you have a little bit of extra time to pamper yourself, light some candles, turn on your favorite tunes, run a hot bath, put a few drops of your favorite oils, flower petals, bath salts or bubbles & lay back, shut your eyes and soak your cares, aches and pains away.  Your mind and body will be much more relaxed when you step out of the bath as opposed to your usual shower.

Tone It! Tan It! Contouring Secrets


This is the most amazing self tanning product out there yet. The Cannes Beach is a firming, anit-cellulite self tanner! Talk about a double whammie!

OK, so why use a self tanner? We all know the damaging effects of UV rays right? I must confess though, I DO take the sun often BUT I don’t take it on my face, I use self tanner!

In order to get a natural tan from ultraviolet light, your skin has to be injured! Self-tanners don’t damage your skin.

How Do Self Tanners Work?

The active ingredient in most sunless tanning products is the color additive, dihydroxyacetone (DHA). DHA is a colorless sugar that interacts with the dead cells located in the stratum corneum of the epidermis. As the sugar interacts with the dead skin cells, a color change occurs the skin’s surface to temporarily darken the skin and simulate a tan. This change usually lasts about five to seven days from the initial application. This is why exfoliating BEFORE you apply self tanners is important!

Every day, millions of dead skin cells are sloughed off or worn away from the surface of your skin. In fact, every 35 to 45 days, you have an entirely new epidermis. This is why tans from sunless- or self-tanning lotions will gradually fade — as the dead cells are worn away, so is your tan. For this reason, most of these products suggest that you reapply the sunless- or self-tanner about every three days to maintain your “tan.”

Fake It ‘Til You Make It…Contouring Tips

There is no doubt that adding a layer of self tan all over before you put your bikini on or slip into a little black dress will give you more than a tan. It will also give you a layer of confidence. Self tan alone gives the illusion of a more toned body, evens out your skin tone and help to cover unwanted veins or blemishes. To take it to the next level you can do some contouring to enhance your muscles. To do so, flex and find the shadow below your muscle and, using a small make up sponge, add an extra layer of your self tanner  to the shadow. Don’t go overboard with this, you are enhancing your tone not painting it on!

Step 1: Exfoliate your entire body in the shower with a loofah and shave all areas of the body you usually remove hair from.
Step 2: Moisturize dry areas of your body, typically around your feet, ankles, knees, hands, wrists and elbows with a light layer of lotion.
Step 3: Liberally apply self tanner with long, soft strokes to your entire body. Keep in mind it’s better to apply too much than too little, as the missed areas will give you a “streaky” uneven look.
Step 4: Shower about eight hours later to reveal your bronzed glow and to remove leftover cosmetic from your body. Then grab your self-tanner again and use a make up sponge to “paint” in lines where they naturally occur on your body.

On your abs: flex your muscles and paint down the center vertical line of your abdomen from just below your sternum to your belly button and repeat down the sides of your obliques.

On your arms: hold one arm out and flex your muscles. Paint a line of self-tanner between your bicep and triceps. Repeat on the other arm.

On your legs: apply an extra coat of self-tanner to the entire insides of your thighs and a bit more to the outer parts, leaving the middle section without as much tanner.

*If you were a bit too heavy handed with any of the above applications, you can always use a dry loofah to buff away lines after you have showered.

If you are weary of tanning yourself, make an appointment with a professional salon to get a spray tan. When there, ask them to create muscle definition for you — and don’t be embarrassed, they hear it all the time. Have fun!

What’s the Perfect Skin Care Routine?


Step 1: Know What Your Skin Type Is

Want great-looking skin? Start by knowing your skin type. Then you’ll know the BEST way to take care of it.

FYI Never use products that contain alcohol on your skin! It’s too damaging & drying… Especially on Oily or Acne Prone skin! When you have Oily or Acne prone skin, your sebaceous glands are what produces sebum which is the nature oils in our skin. When you have Oily or Acne prone skin those glands are working overtime! So what happens when you dry out your skin?  Those glands sense your skin is dry & then they…Produce MORE oil! Now you have dry skin with overactive oil glands!  This is what causes those wonderful pimples or cysts under your skin. You know the ones that hurt so much & hang out for about 2 months!

  • Normal skin is balanced, clear, and not sensitive.
  • Oily/Acne Prone skin is shiny, greasy, and may have big pores.
  • Combination skin is dry in some spots (cheeks) and oily in others (forehead, nose, and chin).
  • Sensitive skin may sting, burn, or itch after you use some makeup or other products.
  • Dry skin is flaky, scaly, or rough.
  • Mature skin can start as young as 30! Crow’s feet, laugh lines & wrinkles around your lips & forehead. If you are a Sun Goddess like me, then you need this type of treatment for sun damaged skin.  Sun spots, dry surface skin (might be oily but on the surface is dry or peeling) & loss of elasticity fall into this category.

Step 2: Cleanser

Please, PLEASE, PLEASE DO NOT ever use soap on your face! The skin on your face, especially around your eyes is very delicate. The PH in soap is not balanced for the skin on your face. Period!

So what cleanser should you use? Well it’s based on your skin type. I recommend a blend of antibacterial and cleansing ingredients including Sodium cocoyl isethionate to help gently cleanse your skin by removing hidden dirt and unclogging pores.

Normal skin to Combination skin can use the same type of cleanser, you can use a lotion or foaming .

Oily or Acne Prone skin can use the same cleansers, use an oil free cleanser.  The PH balance is different for these skin types.

Dry & Mature skin can use the same cleanser it helps to use products with NaPCA & Hyluronic Acid to help your skin GENTLY exfoliate.

Sensitive skin needs to be more careful.  This really depends on what your allergies are for.  Don’t be surprised if you find yourself allergic to an “Hypoallergenic” type product.  This just means it was tested for “common” allergies, but no one knows what those allergies are. This label pisses me off, it’s SO misleading! Unfortunately, this one is trial & error for you.

Step 3: Toner/Re-balance

I have been using toner since I started wearing make up & taking care of my skin. Today we have such amazing products & science has come a long way with skin care.  A lot of people don’t understand why toner is necessary.  Well for one, after we cleanse our skin the PH balance is off, a good toner helps balance that out.  It prepares your skin for the next step for maximum absorption …your face cream.  Toner is also used to set your make up & rehydrate your skin throughout the day. As for toners, there are many out there & once you know what your skin type is you’ll be able to choose the right one for you. I personally feel all skin types can use the same toner. I have been a cosmetologist for over 30 yrs, I specialized in skin & custom make up, so I am VERY familiar with what works & what is bull. Personally I use a food tonic for my toner!

Step 4: Treat

Depending on your skin & what needs to be treated, this is the time you put those special treatments to work.  I use serums under my moisturizer.

Step 5: Moisturize

You may think you’re too young to need moisturizer — or your skin is too oily — but all skin needs moisture. Moisturizers help keep your skin from drying out. Use it every day, no matter what skin type you have. Apply it while your skin is still damp from washing or toning to help seal in moisture. If you have acne or your skin is oily, find a moisturizer that is lightweight and oil-free, so it doesn’t block your pores.

As for the Mature/Dry skin friends, well I use products with Collagen, NaPCA, Hyluronic  & Vitamin C & I have seen a tremendous difference in my skin!

Now this might be the time I say to use sunscreen.  But I don’t believe in putting sunscreen on your face before your makeup. Most makeup, especially mineral makeup has sunscreen in it! You don’t need to clog your pores with a sunscreen if you’re wearing makeup. Now if your face is bare…YES put it on!

Once per week I totally recommend doing a mask.  This help remove impurities from the week, helps balance out your skin & helps exfoliate (depending on what mask you use).

One Highlighter….10 Uses!

1.Perk up those eyes

With your index finger, carefully pull down your lower lid to expose your inner rim. Then gently go over your waterline with the brush, taking special care not to poke yourself!

2. Instant cheekbones without implants

Contour with this technique: Starting near the inner corner of your eye, draw with the brush downward at a slight angle until you’re in line with the center of your nose. Then, trace upwards towards outer corner of your eye. The result should look like a large check mark. Finally, blend, blend, blend.

3. Stick your shadow

Eye shadow has a tendency to slip-side right off after a couple of hours. To solve this perennial problem, dab highlighter onto lids first. The formula color-corrects like a concealer and provides a smooth surface for both shadow and liner to grasp onto.

4. Dismiss dark circles

To lighten up, gently apply in a triangle shape under your eyes and diffuse with your ring finger.

5. Get the glow

Apply highlighter all over to your face using long, outward strokes. Layer on your usual foundation with a brush, blending the two products together. Watch skin take on a lovely glow.

6. Brighten up your face

Glide the pencil above your brows in a large, upside-down U-shape. Blend with your ring finger or a small, densely bristled brush.

7. Accentuate those arches

To highlight the natural shape of brows and give them a lift, apply along the brow bone and blend.

8. Look alive

To erase the effects of late nights and little sleep, trace along the inner corners of your eyes. The light-reflecting particles work like eight cups of coffee (minus the jitters).

9. Slim your nose

Swipe the highlighter down the bridge of your nose and pat into skin to bring all the attention to the middle of your face.

10. Get Angelina Jolie’s lips

OK, not quite. But fuller-looking lips are within your grasp: Dab the highlighter just above your cupid’s bow.
