I know most of you are probably thinking about gift ideas right now… we all know how much people love a handmade gift. At least I know I do! When my daughter came home from pre-school with a handmade gift, it just melted my heart! So much better than anything else I could ask for.

Choosing the right gift for your loved one can be difficult, particularly when you’re shopping for somebody who seems to have absolutely everything already! The last thing you probably want to do is spend money on a gift that’s going to sit on a shelf, unused, or a trinket that they will look at once in a while but which otherwise serves no purpose.

Homemade Rose Milk Bath

  • 1 1/2 cups powdered milk (full fat if you can find it, otherwise nonfat will work)
  • 1/2 cup Epsom salt
  • 1/4 cup (or more) dried rose petals
  • Red food coloring
  • 5-7 drops Rose essential oil

Mix the powdered milk & Epsom salts together, add 2-3 drops of red food coloring. Mix until you have a uniform pink color. Then add the rose petals & essential oil. If you don’t have rose essential oil you can skip it or use any other soothing essential oil you might have, like lavender or chamomile (you can even add lavender & chamomile flowers). Then pour milk bath into a bottle or sachet & make a pretty gift tag.

Peppermint Candy Cane Sugar Scrub

2 cups granulated sugar, divided

about 1/2 cup almond oil

2 drops red food coloring (or raspberry juice)

8-10 drops Peppermint essential oil

Fill each bowl with one cup of sugar. Add the almond oil to each bowl so that the sugar is a nice soft consistency but not too wet. Stir together the oil and the sugar in each bowl. Set it aside. Take the other bowl of sugar & add red food coloring & mix it together. Add essential oil to the pink sugar & mix it well. Take a clean container & add a layer of pink sugar using a large funnel. A paper funnel works well so the sugar can easily slide into the jar. Follow with a layer of white sugar. Continue until the layers until the jar is full.

Chocolate Sugar Scrub

1/2 cup brown  sugar

1/2 cup white sugar

1 Tbsp. cocoa baking powder (don’t add more cocoa unless doubling…it will turn your skin brown!)

1/4-1/2  cup Almond Oil, Olive Oil OR Coconut Oil

1/2 tsp. vanilla

4-6 drops of Vitamin E oil (optional)

*If you want to spice it up you can add some orange, peppermint or cinnamon essential oils for a fun twist.

Mix together the sugars & cocoa in a bowl.  Slowly add the oil until you have your desired consistency (moist not wet).  Add the vanilla & Vitamin E (optional)  & stir all together until combined.  Store in an airtight jar or container.

Chocolate Milk Bath

1/2 cup Epsom salt or Sea Salt
1/4 cup baking soda
1/2 cup cocoa powder
1 cup powdered milk

 

In large bowl, mix salt and baking soda. Add cocoa powder & powdered milk. Mix well & store in air tight container.

De-stress Herbal Bath Salts

1 1/2 tablespoon dried chamomile or chamomile tea

1 1/2 tablespoon (combined) dried lavender, rosemary, &/or rose petals

1 cup Epsom salt

1 cup Kosher salt or sea salt

8-10 drops Essential oils  (combined if using more than one oil)

*Essential Oils for Stress Relief:

  • Cedar Wood – calming, soothing, sleep-promoting
  • Bergamot – uplifting, relaxing
  • Lavender – calming
  • Rosemary – uplifting, increases concentration, mental acuity
  • Lemon – refreshing, mental alertness, calming
  • Peppermint – revitalizing, cooling, invigorating
  • Eucalyptus – clarifying

Pumpkin Spice Facial Scrub

1 cup brown sugar (the finer the better)

1/2 cup coconut oil, olive oil OR avocado oil

1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice

1/2 teaspoon vitamin E oil

2 tablespoons honey

1 tablespoon ground coffee optional (anti-inflammatory properties that tighten skin,  making it feel smoother!)

Combine all of the ingredients in a bowl & mix well. Store in airtight container.

Rosemary Mint Whipped Shea Body Butter

 

1/2 cup sweet almond oil (liquid)

1 cup Shea butter (solid)

1/2 cup coconut oil (solid)

20 drops Spearmint Essential Oil

10 drops Rosemary Essential Oi

 

Place Shea butter & coconut oil in a glass or porcelain bowl. Melt them using a double boiler or over a pan of boiling water. Whisk until completely melted.Remove from the heat, let it cool down a little (for about 10-15 min), Stir in almond oil & essential oils. Whisk again. Put the bowl in the fridge for about 1 hour, until the mixture hardens. Remove from the fridge & start whipping the mixture using a hand mixer for about 1-3 minutes. While whipping, its texture and color will gradually start to change from flat yellowish to creamy & silky white. Spoon it into your choice of container.

Lavender Whipped Body Butter

1 cup coconut oil

1 teaspoon vitamin E oil (optional)

30 drops lavender essential oil

Put all ingredients into a mixing bowl. Note: Do not melt the coconut oil first. It will only whip up if it’s solid. Mix on high speed with a wire whisk for 6-7 minutes or until whipped into a light, airy consistency. Spoon the whipped coconut oil body butter into a glass jar and cover tightly. Store at room temperature, or in the refrigerator if your house is so warm it melts the oil.

Rose Water Toner

1/2 cup dried rose buds

hot filtered water

8-10 drops Geranium essential oil

Pour the hot water over the rose buds & let sit for 1-2 hours. Use a strainer to separate the rose buds from the rose water. Pour into a spray bottle, add geranium oil, shake the spray bottle well.

Peppermint Food Scrub | Hello Glow

Vanilla Peppermint Foot Scrub

6 peppermint candies OR 1 candy cane

1/2 cup sugar

5 drops peppermint essential oil

1 tablespoon of vanilla extract

Put about 6 peppermints or 1 candy cane in a Ziploc bag & break them up with a hammer, then crush them finely with a rolling pin. Add 1/2 cup of sugar, peppermint essential oil & vanilla extract. Massage the bag until the ingredients are mixed together & coated with the essential oil. Transfer to a covered container.

Vanilla Rose Body Oil

Small bottle of almond oil

6-8 drops of vanilla essential oil

dried rose petals

Open bottle & add essential oil. Close the bottle & shake to combine. Don’t forget to remove the label & add your own!

Combat Cellulite With Homemade Body Wraps

For many people, the idea of wrapping their body in fabric & herbs invokes images of ancient embalming rituals that once prepared Egyptian royalty for the hereafter. But for those who have experienced the benefits of modern-day body wraps, dipped in mixtures of clay, salt, herbs & essential oils the vision is likely one of radiant health here and now.

For the past 15+ years, I have been making my own body wraps for myself to combat cellulite. As my friends noticed that my skin was firm & free of cellulite, they began asking what I use & wanted in. Some of them has stretch marks & cellulite, I wasn’t sure if the stretch marks would diminish, but it was worth a try. To my surprise not only had their cellulite diminish, but their stretch marks has faded as well! This became our tradition for girls night.

A spa wrap provides nice pampering. However a do-it-yourself wrap at home will work just as well & you can customize it. This is a bit messy, but the results are worth it!

First I always save my used coffee grinds. Using USED coffee grinds (diuretic) as a scrub  helps release excess fluids. This secret is used on models before photo shoots. It tightens the skin by enhancing fat metabolism & increase circulation, reducing the appearance of cellulite. I will swear by this!

You can do your coffee scrub in the shower (turn the shower off first), massage the grinds where your cellulite & stretchmarks are a problem. Massage in a circular motion.

Here are some massages you can try:

Kneading Technique:

Think of kneading dough. It stimulates the blood by bringing it to the surface, it also loosens up accumulated fats & aids in flushing them out of the system.

 Wringing Technique:

Think of wringing out wet clothes. This technique requires a bit more pressure. You “wring” out the flesh. This is perfect for areas that are prone to cellulite such as buttocks, thighs & hips.

Dry Brushing Technique:

Dry brushing the skin with a natural bristle body brush; then, take a warm shower to open pores. Avoid shaving before a wrap!

Proper hydration is essential when preparing for a wrap at home or at a spa. Drinking plenty of water before (at least 16oz.), during and after (another 16oz.) the application helps boost the detoxification process.

Now for the wrap….

Find a room where it’s easy to turn up the heat or stay warm & ensure privacy for at least 60 minutes. Choose a spot where it’s easy to clean up afterwards. I like to go into my bathtub for the application process.

Ingredients:

  • Pick your seaweed:

Kelp (sold in grocery stores)

Seaweed/Kelp Powder (health food store)

  • Pick your clay:

I use about 1/3 cup for a gallon of water

Dead Sea Clay – is particularly rich in minerals and suitable for all skin types

French Green Clay also mineral & phytonutrient rich, it is not recommended for sensitive or dry skin types

Pink Kaolin is specifically used for detoxification, exfoliation and it’s super gentle & suitable for all skin types

  • 5-15 Drops of at least 3 of Essential Oils below:

Geranium: Geranium is a great all around oil that is especially supportive of the skin. It also improves circulation and stimulates the lymphatic system, helping to diminish water retention & eliminate toxins. In addition, it can address hormone imbalance to help prevent the skin from curdling and lumping up. In addition to getting rid of cellulite, it will help moisturize your skin too.

Rosemary: a great all around oil that combats fluid retention and toxin buildup in the tissues. One of the best oils for battling cellulite due to its toning & firming properties that reduce the appearance of those unwanted dimples. It also helps to combat lymphatic blockage, further working to get rid of cellulite.

Tangerine: this oil helps to enhance blood circulation as well as digestion to keep toxins moving out of the body.

Lemongrass: is an uplifting oil with both stimulant & sedative properties. It helps to remove toxins & enhance blood circulation while its diuretic compounds give it the ability to reduce fluid retention.

Cedarwood: is effective at balancing the skin & clearing out impurities. It’s role as a diuretic makes it a highly valuable oil for treating cellulite, fluid retention, & the accumulation of toxins in the blood. Cedarwood helps to decongest problematic tissues by drawing out excess fat.

Fennel: provides powerful diuretic properties that help the body speed up the elimination of stored up waste materials & decreases excess water retention in body tissues. It’s also effective for breaking up the fatty deposits under the surface of the skin.

Sage: a very popular medicinal herb. This oil is especially effective for treating cellulite by using it with a body brush. Apply it by adding a few drops diluted in a carrier oil (grapeseed oil, coconut oils or sweet almond oil) to a brush with natural bristles. Then brush the skin utilizing semi-circular strokes that are directed toward your heart, massaging it into the entire body, or specifically on problematic areas. Afterward, rinse in the shower, gently pat dry with a towel and massage in more oil using your fingertips.

Juniper:  well known for it’s detoxifying and cleansing properties, juniper is highly regarded for reducing acne, fluid retention and cellulite. It helps to clear and stimulate the mind as well. It’s a great tonic for the skin and join pain/arthritis as well.

Carrot seed: essential oil is derived from the dried seeds of the wild carrot plant. his is a great oil to help slow the aging process, keep the skin hydrated and fight off cellulite. It’s also considered rather remarkable when it comes to toning the skin and even fading stretch marks. It contains powerful antioxidant & detoxifying properties in addition to triggering the production of collagen & promoting blood circulation.

Patchouli: has been acclaimed for its diuretic properties as well as its exotic scent. It’s commonly utilized in practices like anti-cellulite massage and battling water retention.

Celery seed: oil helps to remove any excess fluid from the body & offers an array of other benefits such as supporting relaxation, stimulating the nervous system. It’s also a strong blood purifier which cleans the blood.

*I also like to add dried flowers such as rose, calendula, chamomile & lavender.

Toned-bum-vs-fat-bum

Instructions:

  1. Boil a half-gallon (64 oz.) of distilled water, remove from heat and place in a stainless steel pot. Add planned ingredients to the water and steep for 10 to 15 minutes. Stir with a wooded spoon to mix ingredients.
  2.  Allow the mixture to become cool to the touch before dipping in strips of cotton sheets or six-inch cotton/elastic body wrap bandages, one at a time.
  3. Wrap specific body areas to treat or you cab wrap your entire body starting at the ankles. Wrap firmly but not enough to stop circulation!
  4. Cover wrapped area with plastic film (saran wrap), also wrap firmly here.
  5. Stay wrapped for at least 30 minutes
  6. Unwrap, properly dispose of materials, & take a lukewarm bath or shower.
  7. Take a hot bath two to three days later to open pores and release accumulated toxins from the skin.

You can also make a massage oil with the essential oils you’ve used (or try new ones) To make a massage oil; add 5-15 drops (depending on how many oils you use, use less (5)  if your using more than 3 different oils)of your favorite oils to either grapeseed oil, coconut oils or sweet almond oil. Massage this oil daily onto your skin.

You can do this wrap ever 3-4 days, I wouldn’t do it more often than that. The oils will continue to work, your skin has absorbed the oils into your system. This is why it’s important to know what we put on our skin!

Body wraps are great for reducing the appearance of cellulite & stretch marks. Whether we elect to pamper ourselves or have someone else do it, body wraps make a perfect addition to any good health regimen.

8 Ways To BEAT Holiday Stress NOW

2017’s holiday season will be a challenge this year. Mercury went Retrograde on Dec. 3, & will last until Dec. 22! It’s bad enough we set ourselves up for intensity every season, this year may take it up a notch…So BE prepared!

As with every holiday season, the pace of life speeds up & we expect so much from ourselves & others. Our feelings & emotions can quickly get out of control & lead to some pretty serious stress.

I believe that our attitudes make a huge difference in how each day unfolds before us. This means that setting the intention for a smooth holiday season will be your first step in realizing a smooth holiday season!

Avoid the unnecessary & unexpected stress that comes with each holiday season, & step into the TRUE feelings that the holiday’s are really about.

Here are some simple ideas & habits that will help manage our stress so that we can take care of ourselves during the upcoming holidays & into 2018.

  1. Essential Oils

Try some amazing essential oils that will keep you calm. You can add them to your body lotion, bath, shampoo, make a sugar scrub or even rub the oil between your hands & take a whiff!

Some oils great for helping keep calm & anxiety are:

I love this one… As soon as I wake up, I don’t jump straight out of bed. Instead, I allow myself to savor the realization that I’ve awoken to a new day, with new opportunities &  a fresh new start. For the first 5 minutes of my day, I indulge in gratitude for all that I have, remembering how fortunate I am & thanking the universe for blessing me with so much.  Gratitude improves our health, relationships, emotions, personality, & career! So give thanks for all that you have.

3.  Take a Short Nature Walk

One of my favorite things to do is to connect with nature. Stepping outside into the fresh air walking for 5-15 minutes can shift your energy completely. It can help you reconnect, rejuvenate & recenter yourself. Walking, in a purposeful & conscious way has the most magical of all benefits. It connects you to a higher spiritual place, a source of unlimited possibilities.

4.  Just BE

Easier said than done, it’s not always easy to stop what we’re doing & be where we are…  until we practice it. Life unfolds in the present moment, that’s all we ever really have, this moment. So often, we let the present slip away, allowing time to rush past unobserved & unseized precious seconds of our lives. Worrying about the future & contemplate about what’s past, keeps us in the loop of yesterday & tomorrow while we’re missing out on the present moment.  If we can set aside five minutes a day to sit quietly, close our eyes, & just breathe, it immediately resets our system & reconnects us with our highest & truest self again.

5. Take an Epsom Salt Bath

Taking a hot bath with Epsom salt is a quick & effective way to let your worries go. Epsom salt increases the water’s specific gravity, making you feel more light-weight & buoyant while helping your muscles relax. Most of us are deficient in magnesium, a mineral that is reduced with stress, Epsom salt which is high in magnesium, is one of the easiest ways to get a boost. Your body also absorbs the salts, which helps replenish magnesium. Magnesium can help decrease irritability since it reduces the effect of adrenaline on the body.

*If you are pregnant or have any health concerns, please check with your doctor before using Epsom salts.

6. Dance Like No One Is Watching

Any type of physical activity releases the neurotransmitter, endorphins, which serve to alleviate stress. Neurotransmitters are chemicals within the brain that help communicate messages throughout the body. Endorphins are the body’s natural painkiller to reduce stress & improve the mind’s perception of the world. Dance is an outlet for emotional expression, stress reduction & creativity. So put on your favorite song & dance it out.

7. When In Doubt, Eat a Piece of Dark Chocolate

This is my answer to life’s most challenging issues. I am just a chocoholic & I’m proud of it! Dark chocolate is a tasty treat that’s loaded with nutrients with stress relieving properties, helping to lower stress hormones. You’ll want at least 70% cocoa content to get the most health benefits out of it. There’s now evidence that eating dark chocolate every day can reduce stress (like I needed the study!). The study found that people who rated themselves highly stressed to begin with had lower levels of stress hormones after eating chocolate every day for two weeks!

8. Laugh! Laugh! Laugh!

A good belly laugh doesn’t just lighten the load mentally. It lowers cortisol, your body’s stress hormone, & boosts brain chemicals called endorphins, which help your mood. Lighten up by tuning in to your favorite sitcom or video, reading the comics, or chatting with someone who makes you laugh. BOTTOM LINE: Find the humor in everyday life, spend time with funny friends or watch a comedy show to help relieve stress.

When we practice rituals like these, we realize that the simplest, smallest actions make a profound difference in our lives. What we do for 5 minutes can affect how we carry on for the remaining 23 hours & 55 minutes of our day.

Happy Halloween & Blessed Samhain!

Today, October 31, 2017, I felt compelled to write about what today means to me. Nope there’s no outer beauty tips today, it’s more about the inner beauty we all possess.

Today is celebrated as Halloween, but it’s also the ancient Celtic celebration called Samhain (pronounced saah-win or saa-ween). Samhain presents us with the opportunity to once more celebrate the cycle of death & rebirth. Spiritually speaking of course. This is the time when the veil between our world & the spirit realm is thin, so it’s the perfect time of year to make contact with ancestors, spirit guides & angels. This is a time to respect & honor them, for me, it’s about expressing gratitude for their guidance, protection & wisdom they provided me throughout the year.

Depending on your personalspiritual path, there are many different ways you can celebrate Samhain, but typically the focus is on either honoring our ancestors, or the cycle of death & rebirth. This it the New Year, so this is the time we let go of what no longer serves us for our highest good. Letting go of the past & any pain related to it. Moving forward from the lessons we learned from those painful experiences.

This is the time of year when nature goes in hibernation, the leaves are brown & begin to die off, a period of rest. The nights are getting longer, there’s a chill in the air, & winter is around the corner. This is the beginning of our rest period, acknowledging what we’ve learned & how we’ve grown. This is also a time when we have the tendency to withdraw from the world (so to speak). Look within ourselves. Know that we are NOT alone, we have an entourage of “spirits” around us at all times. This entourage offers their assistance just for the asking. They are on “stand by” waiting for us to call on them. That’s what their job is. They guide us, protect us & share their Infinite wisdom with us (in their own way). All we need to do is call on them & become aware of how they communicate with us.

Tonight we thank them &  honor our ancestors, spirit guides & angels, celebrating those who have died. You can even try to communicate with them. There really is no “set way” to do this. Your intention is what makes the practice sacred. Whatever you feel from your heart, from a place of love, is always the right choice. Remember you are not alone while you’re here, you share this planet with others, we are all connected, so as with any practice, always set intentions for the highest good to all, including yourself.

Here are some fun facts about Samhain:

  • Samhain is celebrated from sunset on October 31 to sunset on November 1, almost halfway between the autumn equinox & the winter solstice.
  • Rituals surrounding Samhain include bonfires, healing, dancing, thanksgiving, & honoring the dead.
  •  It’s considered a time, when the veil between life & death grows thin. Food is set aside for ancestors & spirits. Rituals honoring the dead take place.
  •  Samhain is one of the original festivals behind the holiday we know as Halloween.
  • It was believed that faeries, witches, & demons roamed the earth on Samhain, food & drinks were customarily set out to placate them. Later on, people began dressing up as these creatures & claiming the goodies for themselves, sometimes performing tricks in exchange for food & drink. This is how the Halloween we know today evolved into trick-or-treating!

In the end, whether we choose to follow this tradition or not, whether we believe in it or not, we all will be going through a period of letting go, self-reflection & starting something new. Whether internally or externally, this will happen. This is all a part of the cycle of the Universe. Everything has a beginning & ending.  This IS the “Circle of Life”. You can either choose to embrace it & flow with the energy of life or resist it. Either way change is inevitable. So today honor yourself, acknowledge how far you’ve come & don’t forget to thank your spiritual entourage for all the protection, guidance & wisdom they have provided to you along your journey!

10 Signs You’re Not Drinking Enough Water

Did you know that humans can live 3 minutes without air, though I don’t recommend trying. In a harsh environment — it’s snowing, say — you have 3 hours to survive without shelter. After 3 days, you need water or you’ll perish. You can make it 3 weeks without food, though it won’t be fun.

Because water makes up a total of 60% of our total body weight. That’s a large amount, right? Our brains & heart are actually made up of 75% water, the lungs are about 83% water, the skin contains 64% water, muscles & kidneys are 79%, & even the bones are watery: 31%, then it’s not hard to see why it’s so important.

Despite this, too many of us don’t drink enough water on a daily basis. By depriving ourselves of the world’s most natural resource, we are continuously damaging our bodies. If you experience any of the following, you can improve your situation by starting with a glass of H2O. I consider myself a very hydrated person, I drink a gallon of water a day (8 bottles). Yet there are some days when I get some symptoms below!

  1. Dry Mouth: This seems pretty obvious…if your mouth is dry, it definitely means you’re dehydrated. That’s because you’re dehydrated & the process of making saliva slows down significantly while your body diverts that much-needed moisture to other more important places. Drinking water lubricates the mucus membranes in your mouth & throat, which will continue to keep your mouth moist with saliva long after that first sip. That’s why you get a dry mouth when you’re thirsty.Image result for dry skin

  2. Dry Skin: If you want to keep that youthful, glowing look, the secret is to simply drink plenty of water. Your skin is your body’s largest organ, so of course it needs to stay hydrated. When we’re dehydrated, our skin can dry out and lose its elasticity. A lack of water means a lack of sweat, which leads to a body’s inability to wash away excess dirt & oil accumulated throughout the day.   3. Muscle Cramps/Charley Horses: Have you ever gone for a jog or walk & cramped up? Do you get frequent Charley Horses? This might be because you’re dehydrated. Make sure you’re drinking enough liquids before your workout or spend time outside & remember to stay hydrated throughout. Remember it’s extra important to replace those fluids you lose through sweat during exercise! Your muscles, also, are comprised mostly of water.   4. You’re Hungry: When you’re dehydrated, your body might start to think it needs some food. This happens throughout the day, & overnight when you wake up craving that midnight snack. However, eating food creates more work for your body, whereas drinking water purifies your organs & supplies it with the fuel it needs to go through the other processes in the body.   5. Constipation: Staying hydrated helps lubricate the digestive system. During the process of dehydration, the colon uses up the water that would have been used by the intestines in the next step of the digestive process. It’s important to your digestive health that your body stays hydrated, so make sure you drink enough water!Image result for headache

  6. Headaches & Migraines: I use to suffer from migraines, every time I went to the hospital they would give me an IV & tell me that dehydration is the main cause of migraines! Go figure. Studies have shown that even being slightly dehydrated could cause headaches. So next time you feel a headache coming on, drink a glass of water!Related image

  7. Dry Eyes/Blurred Vision: When your eyes are unusually dry or your vision seems blurred, you could be dehydrated.   8. Dark Urine: Normal urine should be clear or a light straw color. Anything darker is usually a sign of dehydration. When you’re dehydrated, your kidneys try to hold on to as much water as they can without neglecting their job: excreting waste products from the body. Drink, drink, drink!Image result for dizzy

Dizziness: If you’re dizzy, irritable, or confused, it could have something to do with your liquid levels: Dehydration could lead to low blood pressure, with less blood, oxygen, &  fuel flowing to the brain. Even our blood is mostly made up of water, at over 95% of its volume. So since there is less water to make up your blood as usual, this can result in low blood pressure & can ultimately alter your mental state.Image result for mood swings

  10. Mood Swings: Water brings oxygen into the body. The more oxygenated your cells, the more alive you will feel. However, if you don’t drink enough water, the body must get oxygen from your blood to compensate, which will suck your body of oxygen. This will make your whole system slow down & make it harder for your body to function properly. This will inevitably make you more tired, moody, and downright lethargic.

Prevent severe dehydration, which can ultimately threaten your life. Stop annoying symptoms in their tracks & look out for these signs of mild dehydration.

The remedy is no farther than your sink, so drink up!

Feel Sexy Right NOW! The French Way.

When I was 17, I bought a book called “French Chic”. This book contained all the “secrets” french women used to feel & look sexy.

Over the years, I adapted some of their secrets, & whenever I need a “lift”, I incorporate what these french women shared.

First, what is sexy? Sexy isn’t a look or a style, it’s a state of mind. A vibration you emanate as a result of a “feeling”.  A feeling of self-worth, confidence, happiness, security in who you are. It’s not really about your skin, your clothes, your hair, if your pretty or not, or even your weight. When you are secure in who you REALLY are & embrace that person, you emanate sexiness.

So what are some of the tips these french women shared? Here are some of my favorite tips…

  1. NEVER go to bed with make up on! Take the proper steps to cleanse, tone & nourish your skin BEFORE you go to bed. They are fully aware that your body repairs itself when we sleep. Going to sleep with makeup on is sabotage to your skin

  2. ALWAYS use moisturizer. Keep your skin hydrated always! Additionally, they spritz water on their face throughout the day.

  3. DRINK plenty of water! We all know the importance of drinking enough water everyday. Water is treated as a luxury in France. Sexy French women drink a lot of water because they know it improves their skin. They use micellar water as part of their cleansing routine.

  4. PAMPER your skin, all of it! When you’re in the shower or taking a bath, exfoliate your skin with a natural scrub. They understand that our body is capable of repair itself & with proper care, you can have the best skin imaginable. They embrace the aging process, they don’t fight to look 20 forever! (This is a state of mind also). Taking care of their skin is something french women do to pamper themselves & they thoroughly enjoy it!

  5. EXFOLIATE at least once a week. French women treat their face to a mask & exfoliation at least once a week.

  6. ROUTINE skincare. While routines vary, they look something like this: cleanser, serummoisturizer, eye cream & products for specific issues such as unevenness or dullness. 

  7. LOVE your body. Take notice of how your body feels when you nurture it with lotions & creams, keeping it hydrated & soft. Show gratitude what your body has done for you over the past years. Appreciate yourself! Good skincare will always reveal better skin & French women realize this.

  8. PREVENTION. They practice prevention from their youth so they have to do less treatment later. They start on eye creams & serums in their teens or early twenties. This approach means their skin looks better longer. My aunt who lived in Paris for many years, taught me this when I was 10! She helped me come up with a skincare routine back then. Skincare routine years BEFORE makeup!

  9. WEAR Lingerie under your clothes just for you! Just doing this automatically makes you FEEL sexy! French women don’t need a special occasion for nice underwear. I discovered that underwear isn’t just underwear, it’s “lingerie” & it reflects an art of living — a philosophy dedicated to an enhanced well-being.

  10. NO FUSS Hair. They’re not fussy about hair. Have you ever noticed a french woman’s hair? They have a style, while chic, that is very much carefree. Always think “natural” & “low maintenance.” Think “sex” hair.

  11. EMBRACE your age. Rather than try to hide the fact that you’re aging, embrace it! That’s the French philosophy They do their best to protect their skin from aging but when it occurs, they don’t fight it.

  12. MASSAGE. French women painstakingly cake on product after product to keep their skin looking young & fabulous! As Americans, we tend to stop at the neck or even worse the chin. French women go beyond these two points by working the chest into their routine. By keeping your neck & chest supple you’ll increase your facial skins appearance as well.

  13. ATTITUDE towards life. French women enjoy EVERYTHING they do! It could be something as simple as walking to the Metro, buying food in a store, eating a piece of pastry, or the way she wears her clothes. It’s all about attitude. French women radiate confidence & a sexy allure, no matter what they do. She could be having the worst day possible, but no one would know it. Feel gorgeous, act gorgeous & you’ll be gorgeous.

  14. Lipstick is a french women’s girl’s best friend. They might not be into tons of makeup, but, they will ALWAYS wear lipstick!

They believe in being the best they can at any age & that’s certainly a lesson we can all learn. Rather than stressing over what we don’t like about ourselves, let’s focus on the things we LOVE about ourselves, doing the best we can & be content in that!

Stress Less…Sniff Your Way To A Happier Week

Essential oils has been used for centuries in assisting with healing the mind & body. These amazing oils offer a variety of healthy benefits. They’ve been shown to support gut health & immunity, aid in the detoxification of organs, & balance hormones—naturally! Essential oils have amazing effects on our mental state as well, and they’ve been shown to naturally elevate people’s moods.

Try using these different oils each day to help elevate your mood & well being. Here are some of my favorite essential oils to help support an awesome mood. Diffuse 3 to 6 drops of them in your home or office using a diffuser, in a pot of steaming water, or, Pour ¼ cup of hot tap water into an attractive jar or container. Add ¼ cup alcohol (I used rubbing alcohol but apparently vodka works, too) and 20-25 drops of whatever essential oil you want to use. Swirl to mix. inhale a couple of drops from the bottle, or place a few drops in an Epsom salt bath for the ultimate at-home spa treatment.

We all need a “pick me up” after the weekend. This is the beginning of our week, try using one or a combination of:

  • Peppermint is a popular oil that is said to stimulate the mind to help support memory, focus, concentration, and mental performance.
  • Lemon is very uplifting to the mind & body. Lemon, when used aromatically, promotes physical energy & purification. Its invigorating fragrance is warming, & there are many clinical studies supporting the use of lemon essential oil for reducing stress & boosting mood. A MUST have for Monday!
  • Frankincense is an amazing oil that has been used to support healthy cellular function for thousands of years. During biblical times, Frankincense was said to be even valued more than gold. Used aromatically, frankincense offers wonderful mood support & can help improve focus, minimize distractions & improve concentration. It also reduces hyperactivity, impatience, irritability & restlessness.

Research has shown that stress levels seem to peak on Tuesday.

  • Lavender is one of the most popular essential oils…for good reason. It smells great & is an effective stress-relieving oil. In addition to stress-relieving properties, Lavender is a healing aid against colds, flu & migraines.
  • Vetiver is a really nice, thicker oil that carries an earthy fragrance. It has powerful calming & grounding effects on emotions. It can be used to relieve stress, promote restful sleep & aid in recovery from emotional trauma & shock.
  • Bergamot is one of my favorite citrus oils. This wonderful oil assists in reducing anxiety & depression, calming the mind & reducing worries.

Falling into the hump-day slump? Can’t wait for Friday? Time for inspiration!

  • Eucalyptus offers many topical and aromatic benefits, this essential oil has a soothing, cooling vapor. Use Eucalyptus oil to invigorate, soothe & uplift. Try making your shower experience even more relaxing… Place a couple drops of Eucalyptus oil directly onto the shower floor while you are showering. The steam from the water will create a natural diffuser for the Eucalyptus oil, leaving you with a clear, invigorated feeling! You can also try putting a couple of drops in your shampoo for an invigorating treatment for your scalp.
  • Jasmine has an exquisitely floral aroma that is uniquely its own. A tiny bit goes a very long way! This wonderful oil is called the oil of optimism & confidence. I diffuse Jasmine in my office when I know I’ve got a tough job ahead. If I really need a boost, I will enhance this oil’s amazing effects by sipping some hot jasmine tea.
  • Clary Sage I call the oil of clarity & vision. This lovely oil can help change our perceptions, dispelling our limiting beliefs about our work & open our hearts & minds to new possibilities. It can inspire us to rely more on our intuition & expand our horizons. Clary Sage is one of the most relaxing, soothing & balancing essential oils, creating a restful environment while reducing feelings of stress and anxiety.

Almost to Friday! Hang in there, start getting into the weekend mood!

  • Ylang Ylang (pronounced as Eee-lang Eee-lang), was one of the first essential oils that I ever purchased & worked with. I couldn’t resist its intoxicating aroma. I love making an oil with Ylang Ylang & Clary Sage. This is known as the MOST powerful aphrodisiac combinations. 😉 Emotionally, this oil is known for being helpful with stress & anxiety. It’s also used in cases of depression or when trying to cope with anger. I use Ylang Ylang Oil in blends intended to focus upon happiness, gratitude & celebrating blessings. Ylang Ylang alone is also considered an aphrodisiac. 😉
  • Geranium is a strong smelling oil with a floral aroma & a hint of mint. This fresh essential oil has a firm place in aromatherapy, as it helps to balance the mind & emotions, while stimulating the adrenal cortex, balancing the hormonal system &  stimulating the lymphatic system.
  • Orange has a wonderfully uplifting aroma, this is one of the most popular of essential oils within aromatherapy. The aroma of Orange Oil is cheerful and helps to improve the aroma of a stale-smelling room. The very smell of orange essential oil reminds you of happy moments & brings pleasant thoughts to mind. That is why this oil is so frequently used in aromatherapy.

Scent the mood for a hot night or a much needed girls night out!

  • Sandalwood sedates inflammation, anxiety, fear, stress, & restlessness. Furthermore, it induces relaxation, calmness, concentration, inner vision, & positive thoughts. Sandalwood is particularly useful for enhancing mood & providing grounding & uplifting feelings during meditation. Mix Sandalwood with Ylang Ylang or Jasmine for a “hot night in”!
  • Oregano has been found to boost dopamine, & then it goes on to boost noradrenaline & serotonin, other functions oregano oil reduces the inflammation of the brain, which can resolve depression and boosts the mood.
  • Patchouli provides a grounding, balancing effect on emotions. I’m not alone in my fondness for Patchouli Essential Oil…Patchouli is regularly used in the perfume industry & its aroma is suitable for unisex & men’s blends. It can act as an aphrodisiac as well.

There is something about the ancient beauty secrets that is so appealing to our modern world. It is essentially appealing to me because they used natural ways to enhance their beauty. There was no such thing as toxic chemicals back then!

Well it’s been a crazy two weeks! I live in SE Florida, so from preparing for Hurricane Irma, to riding out Irma, to cleaning up AFTER Irma, Irma has left me wiped. Olive oil is made up of monounsaturated fatty acids with strong antioxidants, & vitamins A & E, which help moisturize & repair skin & hair. Honey is a naturally sweet food that also provides benefits for our health. Tangerines

2.) The vitamin B12 in tangerines promotes hair growth, reduces hair loss & slows down the graying process!! YAY!

Spinach

This is only one of the superfoods you should eat every day! I like adding Spinach in an omelet. (Just an idea) Spinach is iron rich and it contains sebum, which acts as a natural conditioner for hair. The leafy green also provides omega-3 acids, magnesium, potassium, calcium & iron. All help keep hair lustrous, shiny & most importantly, out of the drain. This is a good thing!

Cinnamon

It smells like the holiday season & improves circulation, which brings oxygen & nutrients to your hair follicles. Sprinkle this evocative spice on your toast, in your coffee, or sprinkle it on top of your cereal or oatmeal.

Diet Soda or anything with Artificial Sweetener

Yet another reason that diet isn’t any better than regular: The artificial sweeteners—specifically, aspartame—has been linked to hair loss.

Sugar

It’s officially the year of “stop the sugar!” and your wannabe-luscious locks are yet another reason why sugar hurts your health. It’s really pretty basic: Protein is super important for your hair & sugar hinders the absorption of it. Steer clear of added sugar & surprising foods that have sugar. Sorry guys!

White Starch

This one goes hand in hand with sugar, since white bread, cakes, pastries, white pasta, & other refined, over-processed starches are converted into sugar, which causes your hair to thin. So step away from the croissant & stick with whole wheat whenever possible. EWWW I know this one hurts!

Alcohol

Alcohol slows the levels of zinc in your body, which is a necessary mineral for healthy hair & growth. It also dehydrates your hair, making it more brittle and likely to break. Alcohol does a number on your skin, too. So lay off the wine & margaritas!

Fast Food

Greasy food translates to greasy skin, including on your scalp. As your noggin’s pores wind up clogged, hair loss can occur. Gross, right?
